On Saturday, after a ridiculously easy process, I was pre-approved for a home loan. After inputting my information with the mortgage company, I was so nervous I felt like throwing up when I hit the "finished" button. Then, three hours later, the lender calls to tell me I have excellent credit and they've approved me for A LOT more than I had anticipated. That doesn't mean I'm changing the current budget, though.
On Sunday, we saw our first house -- one that
count_gunthar had been wanting to see. It was very nice but the kitchen was way too small. Gunthar keeps insisting that he can live with it, but I don't want us both unhappy six months after we buy it. Besides, that was the first house and I'm not so in love with it that I don't want to see anything else.
On Thursday, Gunthar and I are taking a day off to see houses and then go to the State Fair. If all goes well, we could be in a new home by the end of November.
Squee!

Date: 2009-10-14 03:56 pm (UTC)You are right about the kitchen. You are also right to keep looking. :) The first house won't seem so awesome after he's seen a few more. ;) Be patient with the process - we didn't find ours for... 14 months? I think. And it was the second "perfect" house, just like Jen went through two recently.
Also: budget = good. :)
Good luck and great finds in your search. :D
