You're in TX, right? From what I've read of the TX Family Code, the alimony laws there are really, really restrictive.

I'm in TX, and the alimony laws are pretty restrictive. I actually meet the basic requirements for alimony, but because I worked during the entirety of our marriage and have continued to do so, and I can support myself, a judge isn't likely to award it to me either. After a brief stint of unemployment (during which time I supported him), he has been gainfully employed for the last 20 years, at at least twice my salary or more at times (it evened up a bit after I went back to school).
