countessmouse: (Princess Elizabeth)

Grump

Do you know what one of the more difficult and tedious things about being a Princess is? Figuring out what to wear. I swear, the camp garb has been relegated to the back of the closet until next June and I can't wear just one outfit all day long. At least the weather predictions for Gothic War eliminate half of what's available to me.

And let's not forget crowns and veils. And what to do with my hair.

It's ridiculous when you have more bins of garb than you do bins of camping items for an event.

Oh.

Um. I mostly camp semi-alone at pennsic.
Camping stuff & Kitchen: 2 bins
Clothes: 3 large and 2 small bins
Teaching stuff: 4 to 10 bins...

heh ... you know my mantra ... pre-pack pre-pack pre-pack!

Hair .. hmmm .. well, I have had this page up for a really long time, you are welcome to play with the styles.

My hair started to fall out during the last reign I worked (long story, email if you want to know). Before that I was able to do these by myself rather quickly.

I really loved the three braid one for fighthing.

There is also hair wrapping:

You mean because it'll be FREAKING HOT!? OR because it'll be wet??
*lol*

Be sure to take your inhailers (I know, duh, for you), as I DIE there! Big part of the reason I'm not going this year, despite how much I love you guys. (plus lots of other people are going, so I know you two are covered!)

Clothes...yeah, I'll be over at Amy's Wednesday for that very purpose. I ahve found a couple cure men's outfits I want to do, and want to play with a few women's stuff. As while I love a coathardie, I am finding that I just get too warm in some of them!

I'm getting excited about the clothes though!!!

Oh god isn't it just...

I finally achieved more-or-less functional wardrobe at Pennsic, though I really need a weekend of frantic sewing sometime soon, which is not going to happen before coronation, because I'm embroidering every minute I'm not doing something for work or answering email. Ack.

Being a clothes horse, I have more than the average SCAer, but about a third of my wardrobe is camp garb that's not appropriate at the moment, another third is really nice stuff that I'm not about to take to War, and the rest is garb I don't mind getting dirty because it's washable. Then you weed out the things I won't be able to wear because it will be too hot and I'm left with things to choose from. Plus, I'm getting rapier garb that I'll want to wear at War as well. Decisions, decisions...

I'm making blackwork badges like mad at the moment, having decided that all of our entourage will have an identifying pouch. And we have a lot of entourage.

Do you not have people sewing for you, Your Highness? I thought you had a team taking care of things for you...

just curious, because I think you have too many other things to worry about than handling a wardrobe.

It's a matter of choosing what to wear, not that I don't have enough to choose from. There are people sewing for me, but I prefer to make my own choices regarding garb for an event.

As for the blackwork, it is important to me to personally make something that the people who will be taking care of me for the next 10 months will wear to identify them as entourage.

It's a long and complicated story, but yes, I have people working on things. I am, unfortunately, the best person I have at making things that fit and look right on me in my period, 12th c., which means that I'm doing more work on my own Coronation garb then I strictly ought...
