Cue music for Wicked Witch

We had a couple of tornados in the area in the wee hours of the morning. One was about two miles south of us and the other unconfirmed one was two blocks from our apartment. I woke up at about 3:45am to some horrific wind, heavy rain, and constant lightning. The wind was so loud that it drowned out the emergency sirens in the area and the power went out almost immediately so I couldn't confirm that anything was going on. Gunthar slept through the whole thing.

The power was still out when we got up, but there was enough hot water in the water heater to take a couple of quick showers. Everything immediately around our building seemed okay except for a couple of largish downed branches and bits of leaves everywhere, and the gates to the complex had to be pried open this morning so people could get in and out. Outside of the complex, however, showed exactly what happened last night -- downed trees, tilting power poles, twisted traffic lights, a row of covered parking that looked like a can opener had attacked it, and no power anywhere within a half mile of our apartment. We were really lucky.

Went home at lunch to check on things and the power is still out. I REALLY hope it's on by tonight.

Edited to add:  Just got home and we have electricity.  Yay!

Just glad you two are OK. I used to live (briefly) in Omaha. Tornado warnings were a daily part of life, but they usually didn't start this early in the year. Take care and keep safe!
