Dial-in Access
Jul. 31st, 2006 07:02 pmI cannot believe how unbelievably slow dial-up access can be! I'm traveling on business, sitting in a hotel room that supposedly has Wi-Fi, but my temperamental work laptop has decided it cannot access wireless. So, I'm forced to suffer through the loooonnnggg pauses created by a modem. Okay, so I'm spoiled. I love my broadband access at home.
Since a few friends have posted their thoughts about Lindenwood's Queen's Champion Tourney, I'll post mine. I worked gate most of the day, mostly to keep Elin company, not because we were overcome by hoardes of SCAdians trying to get in after the morning rush. Hand hemmed a silk veil and vowed never to work with that fabric by hand again.
My mask I made mysteriously disappeared from my bag of hair pieces and other womanly things that I brought into the changing room that Master Philip so generously provided us, thereby allowing us to dress in comfort rather than everyone being crammed in the bathroom together. The mystery was solved when I arrived home to find little bits of feathers and silk ribbon ALL OVER MY APARTMENT! It seems that bad kitty Maddie snatched the mask from the bag and conveniently hid it until Mama was gone, so that she could shred it to bits. The only recognizable portion remaining was the plastic mask itself, which had little bite marks all over it. Bad kitty!
count_gunthar and I must have had cherries on the brain, because we both brought cherry bread pudding for the dessert table. He thought a little farther ahead and provided a delicious rosewater-flavored whipped cream to go with it. And his peach custard was yummy. So were the grapes and the cherry he fed me while I was busy trying to finger loop braid a cord for Elin's dress (an hour before the ball started -- god, we're so last minute with everything!) He can tell you what happened to the cherry pit.
I danced twice, but all that jumping in Peascod made my asthma flair up, so I had to sit out until Elin asked me to dance the last one. Swimming with the gang followed, with a nice conversation with Gunthar about cooking and other things. I got home about 1:30am. All in all, a good time!
