Man, am I wiped out! It's sad when you have to come back to work to get some rest. Now if I could only figure out how to pull a George Costanza and put a hidden bed beneath my desk...

U-Haul Corporate screwed around with our reservation a bit and I ended up with a bigger trailer than I needed (at the same rate as the smaller one, of course). I realize they thought they were doing us a favor but, frankly, I hated driving the larger trailer. It is a pain to distribute the load correctly and a drain on the mileage per gallon. Gunthar and I definitely agree that we want the smaller trailer for the trip to Pennsic in August.

We got the trailer loaded up and packed late Thursday night since Gunthar had to work all day Friday. I finished loading the garb and packing the coolers Friday morning and headed out to site in the middle of some of the worst rainstorms I have ever driven in. The whole way there, I kept thinking if it was raining this hard in Canton, we were screwed. The weather on site was clear so most of us managed to get everything unloaded, unpacked and set up before the first rain hit in the early evening. Gunthar arrived on site at about 8:30-9:00pm to find that the only thing left to do was set up the evil rope bed from hell. (As this contraption rates a whole other LJ post on its own, I will only say that we're getting a slat bed made before Pennsic.) That made him happy, but I was pooped! :(

[livejournal.com profile] lady_katheryn's investiture was great! She had a bagpiper who had been practicing traditional Scottish tunes the night before, but, when given the option of playing something "quirky", piped her in to the Star Wars theme. I laughed the entire way up the aisle! She also pulled a great "gotcha" on the baron who had just stepped down by asking him to spend the day at her side rather than take advantage of the first opportunity he had in years to fight in the Warlord list. The look on his face was priceless and she may well be the only person in the kingdom to ever render Mahadi speechless. It was great! The rest of the day was spent out by the list fields, while our new Baroness mingled and greeted. Kudos to Elizabeta ([livejournal.com profile] fieryredhead) for sticking out baroness-sitting duties with me. I couldn't have survived without her.

The weather managed to stay pleasant (overcast and breezy) for most of Saturday, enabling us to finish the heavy tournaments before the sky opened up once again. We scurried back to camp for a quick change of clothes and then headed to the hall for the two hour evening court. Good Lord, my feet were killing me by the end of it. I'd never had to stand the entire time, much less on the stage behind the Baroness. Gunthar, bless his heart, ran back to camp and fixed dinner plates for both me and the Baroness right after court, because we had no time to go back to camp before we had to attend the Bardic competition, which ended up getting moved outdoors because court ran so late we lost the use of the hall. Many thanks to Gunthar for assisting Master Robin in gettiing lighting for the Baronial pavilion so we weren't sitting in the dark. Partying went on until the rain started in the wee hours of the morning.

It rained again on Sunday morning -- a portent for the day to come. Rapier had to be moved indoors, archery was cancelled because the archery field was now a swamp. About the time the rapier championship was being decided, the heavens opened up and a deluge ensued. Court was held immediately following and Katheryn closed the event, asking everyone who could do so safely to get home if they could. If she wishes, Katheryn will have to tell the sad tale of the river flowing through her tent. Since Gunthar and I decided to stay once the rain stopped in hopes that our pavilion would dry out a bit, we packed Katheryn up and sent her home after making sure she ate and relaxed in camp with the diehards (who couldn't leave until Monday anyway) before driving home. Gunthar and I had a good time swapping "no shit, there I was" stories with everyone until I finally collapsed and went to bed.

The rain held off long enough for us to finish packing up and drive home Monday morning. We vegged out all afternoon, finally catching up on the season ending of Heroes.

I'm still tired.

Thanks, sweetie. You looked really good out there on the list fields. I think you ought to look into field heralding when we start the tiny tournies up.

Not only were my feet sore, but my calves and ankles swelled up terribly. They are just now getting back to normal! ;)

I'm so sorry! Yeah, my feet were very unhappy with me for a while! I can't imagine having swollen ankles and calves to top it off! Though my back was none too happy after Saturday standing all day. :(

I had a blast on the fields heralding, and have decided that it is indeed something I want to do. I'll be gabbing with Morgan about it this weekend.
