We Survived the War (but just barely)

We arrived home late last night from Gulf Wars, exhausted and tired of being in the car for 10 hours. Man, what a drive. The rented U-Haul trailer worked great, as did our new tent (no pics, unfortunately, because we were so busy). We were rained on, we had a couple of freezing nights, and there were a few ticks with the meal plan, but I had a pretty good time. I got my volunteer hours in, managed to sit in on one class (which was very short), and fed between 15-20 people every day. And I managed to get sick in the middle of all this -- again.

The Iron Chef Cook Off competition was interesting, even if we only had two teams compete. I'll leave the details up to Gunthar to describe, but I'm glad it occurred before my taste buds decided to take a vacation while this upper respiratory thing took over. I learned a couple of things and Gunthar and I are thinking about competing ourselves next year.

I'm disappointed that I didn't get more shopping in, but I just didn't feel well enough to trapise through the merchant area more than a few times. We did, however, manage to get Gunthar a few much needed items, which is a good thing. I got some string -- but not much, I promise. Oh, and some very pretty bobbin lace pillow pins.

A visit to the doctor this afternoon confirmed that I have a really nasty case of bronchitis with an asthmatic component. I'm dosed up with meds and my physician assures me that I'll stop wheezing now that I'm in a more controlled environment and not sleeping in a damp, cold tent. No duh. Gunthar must think he's got some catch at this point -- I've been horribly ill twice in the eight months we've been together. Bleh.

So, now it's time to concentrate on other things. Life never slows down, does it?
