Crown Tournament
Jul. 29th, 2008 03:08 pmIt was hot and a long way from home. I am so proud of the members of our household -- we had quite a showing despite the distance. There was some miscommunication as to whether the tournament would be indoors or outside, but outside it was. It was a pretty site, but OMG the heat. We had quite a task keeping the fighters hydrated and cool, and the heat just drained the energy right out of them.
Gunthar kept the "I'm winning this" mindset the entire time and actually informed the Crown that he intended to do so, which is was far better than his usual "I hope I don't suck" speech. He fought well and I am so very, very proud of him.
Here are a couple of my favorite pictures:
The outpouring of congratulations and well wishes from all over the Kingdom has made both of us feel very loved.
On another note, as if this hasn't already happened, I will not be posting here on a regular basis until we step down next May. However, I will be checking in on my friends, so please keep me updated on what you're up to!

Date: 2008-07-29 10:25 pm (UTC)Gunthar and I are early 15th century English. HL Amalia is working with us on some ideas at this point.
Mistress Serena is trying to talk me into Elizabethan for Queen's Champion. I'm leaning towards early Tudor. We'll see how it works out after we do the research.

Date: 2008-07-30 06:59 pm (UTC)Don't let anyone talk you into something that they love but you're just meh about. If you're curious about a certain period then there's plenty of time to explorer it when you're not under a massive deadline and going to be on display. It's enough stress etc without you feeling uncomfortable in unfamiliar clothes.
I hate it when there's a person that loves all things Viking and then ends up with a version of 16th century German clothes or something for their coronation. Your clothes should reflect you and your interests and make you feel like a queen. (Though the 16th century does kick some pretty hard butt... ;-)
I'm sure you'll look lovely in whatever you choose, and I can't wait to see the pictures. Congrats again!

Date: 2008-07-30 07:12 pm (UTC)I absolutely love how the crowns just sit at the base of the hennins, and the little tiny hennin crown toppers make me smile. Possibly problematic for a coronation because you have to slide them over the hennin or remove the hennin etc, but sometime during your reign... ok, I'm done now ;-) Just had to share since it's not every day that someone who won crown might actually do this period! (...and if you do do it then I would love pictures so that I can do a little happy dance!)
