Crown Tournament
Apr. 7th, 2008 10:45 amAnsteorra's Crown Tournament was this weekend. Due to the change in the schedule from April/October to July/January, this is going to be a short reign - four months on the thrones instead of six.
count_gunthar and I had discussed this at length and decided that while he would enter the tournament, it would really be okay if he lost this one. Besides, Gunthar really wants to be a Gulf War king again.
It was apparent from the first round that Gunthar was having an off day. He was tired too easily and couldn't seem to find his rhythm. However, for someone having an off day, he ended up in the finals again. Against Ulstead -- again. It was a good, clean fight and came down to a single blow -- again. And Ulstead won, simply because he got that last blow in when he realized how tired Gunthar really was.
And you know what, I'm okay with that. Deep down, I think Gunthar is, too.
The best part of the day? Gunthar made flowery speeches to me at the beginning of every round, each one designed to make me cry. It only served to make me laugh, especially when he ran out of ideas during one speech and ended it with "and...and because everyone likes you better". The last one, however, was the one that worked and made me teary, along with Countess Tessa, Baroness Katheryn and a couple of the other ladies standing near me.
Vivat Gunthar for persevering and continuing to fight, even when you were tired and really not happy with your fighting.
